By the Light of My Laptop

My goodness where has the time gone?  I really don't like how fast time seems to be moving lately!  But some good news...there's still time to enter my Negative Space Sketch Challenge over at Soul Scrappers.  Entries need to be posted by 7pm ET on Monday, December 10th.

This LO captures part of my daily life....my laptop.  Technology is part of our everyday lives from smart phones, tablets and computers to our MP3 players.  So why not document it?

I'm still playing with blending modes in PSE7, trying different lighting effects.  I did finally buy PSE11 when Costco had it on sale.  It was necessary if I wanted to continue to take classes and I do love to take classes! I've loaded it onto my laptop, but haven't  had a chance yet to play.

For this challenge I used digi elements from Captivated Visions and from One Story Down Collab called Being Me.

I hope you'll join in the challenge.  Until next time...Happy Craftin'!

If Not Now - When? A Snapshot Challenge

Snapshot 19 is all about Values.  You can read the post here.  I wasn't sure how to go about this page.  I knew I wanted to represent values I thought were necessary in a person and if we all had them what a wonderful world we'd live in.  I saw these theatre masks in a kit by Rebecca McMeen over at Scrapbookgraphics.  I still wasn't sure where I was going.

I've been practicing with blending modes, trying to understand how they interact together.  I copied the hand with the masks a couple of times and then started trying out different blending modes.  When I used a multiply and color dodge combo I had an "AHA" moment and could see what I needed to do for the rest of the page.  And here it is...

Outside The Box Design Studio

There's a new art journal forum from Outside the Box Design Studio.  I discovered them during Digital Scrapbook Day this past weekend.  They ran a contest to win a seat in one of their upcoming art journal workshops.  The catch-you had to use their products, but they did give you a coupon; oh and you had to use the word "art" on your page.  So I purchased the starter kit using the coupon and made this page.  Received a message a short time ago that I was one of the winners...Woohoo.  This is the page I created.  Hope you get a chance to create :-)  Until next time...Happy Craftin'!

Snapshot 2012 #18 - I Believe

Digi Credits: Studio Viva Artistry-Fairy Tale-Virtuosity, Penmanship, Le Reve
Beth Rimmer: Grunge Overlays
I finally made it to another Snapshot 2012 chat.  Although you don't have to go to the chats to participate I find the discussions help me focus on what I want to do for a page. Snapshot 18 is about our beliefs.  What beliefs do you hold dear, or perhaps what beliefs have changed over the years.  It's a pretty broad topic.  I chose one of our family beliefs.  We are strong proponents of the "Each new day brings new possibilities.  Yesterday is a lesson learned, let it go, move on with no regrets."  Our teenager especially embraces this...lol.  For this page I worked a lot on blending the background papers.  Underneath the ink and gesso there are 3 different papers with different blending modes applied to help create the look I wanted.
I've been playing in PSE7 for 10 months now and am still discovering new things to try.  I haven't even started playing with brushes.  Of course PSE11 has now been released.  It looks like a great program, but I don't want to upgrade since I'm still learning PSE7.  Unfortunately many of the new classes coming out are for PSE9 or higher so I may not have a choice if I want to take any classes.

Oh and before I sign off I wanted to share that this piece was selected as a WOW layout over at ViVa Artistry.com and as a GSO (gallery stand out) over at Scrapbook Graphics...Woohoo!  It was a wonderful surprise and I just had to share it with you all since you are kind enough to visit my blog and look at my creations :-).

The weekend is almost here and I hope you find time to create...until next time...Happy Craftin'!

Art Journal Caravan Rolls On!

It's been a while since I did an AJC page.  I was looking through old itineraries that I haven't done (and there are many!) and came across a prompt about actors you think are hot.  Well, big fan of The Vampire Diaries here so I had to do a page on Ian Somerhalder!  You can find the credit details here in my SBG gallery.

Can't wait for the season premier on October 11th!

Hope you're having a wonderful crafty day :-)

Delicious Autumn

Autumn Poetry is a new digital art kit just released by Studio Tangie over at ."Scrapbook Graphics.  I had the privilege of getting a sneak peek and playing with all the gorgeous elements in the kit.

The journaling is an excerpt from a George Eliot piece and says-

"Delicious Autumn my very soul is wedded to it and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeing the successive autumns"

I had a hard time trying to get the font readable on the dark background.  I finally settled on adding a glow to the text.  Not very realistic, but at least you can sort of read the poem.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful weekend full of creative opportunities!

It's ARTastic Challenge Time

ARTastic Challenge Blog is "a challenge blog with a difference. We find inspiration in works of art."

This month the inspiration piece is:
"The Prophetic Calamity" by Shannon Crees

The criteria to play this month- a black background and a solid use of geometric patterns.  I've been on a roll scrapping pictures of my son and his friend and this challenge was no different (I think this is the 3rd LO this month!).

I used Studio Tangie's AJC12 Parcel 37-Misty Overlays for the geometric pattern and accents from her Mtreehouse kit.

There's still a week left to join in the fun :-)

Hope to see you there...untill next time...Happy Scrappin'!

You're Orginal-A Song Lyric Challenge

Studio Tangie: Splattergrafitti Rhapsody,
AJC12 Parcel 37-Misty Overlays
Jenn Lindsay Template Freebie
Designs by Helly-Ephermal Soul
It's time for a song lyric challenge over at Soul Scrappers. This time it's a Katie Perry song.  You can find all the details here.  As I was reading the lyrics I was struck by the lines "You don't have to feel like a wasted space. You're original, cannot be replaced".  How many of us forget that while dealing with the everyday stuff?  It was a  great reminder to appreciate yourself for who you are, or in the words of Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jone's Diary "I like you just the way you are".  So like yourself today and if you feel like it why not scrap a page about things you like about yourself. Have a great weekend and Happy Scrappin'!

FS2S September Challenge

Studio Rosey Posey: Summer Memories
Studio Tangie: Steampunk-Maritime Kit,
Chromicles of Imagination
From Screen to Scrap September Challenge is based on the movie poster "The Last House on the Left".  The challenge criteria calls for a black base, a house somewhere on the page and one word in your title needs to be red.

Being a scary movie I contemplated doing a Halloween LO, but I'm in the groove working on my vacation photos and don't want to interrupt the flow.

The LO was inspired from a sketch that I saw at Get It Scrapped.  I love the layered look, but have a hard time figuring out how to do it sometimes so a sketch is a great way to get me started.

This challenge runs until the end of the month so why not give it a go.

Happy Craftin'!

To celebrate feeling better I tried a new challenge for me over at Soul Scrappers called the Recipe Challenge.  You are provided a list of ingredients that must be in the LO.  This month the recipe calls for 1 photo, wood grain, ribbon, ink splots and negative space.  And this is what I came up with.  You can find all the details here CUCC7 Challenge.  I hope you can join us for some fun challenges this month.

New Negative Space Sketch Challenge is Ready

It's hard to believe it, but it's time for another Negative Space Sketch Challenge  over at Soul Scrappers, but it is!  I figured after the very challenging challenge of hexagons it was time for something a little simpler.   For my page I used Jenn Barrette's "Love You More than Ice Cream" and Sahlin Studio's new "Paper Piercing Stitch Holes-Basic".  Of course, lately no LO of mine is complete without a little digital Gesso thrown in from Studio Tangie!
I hope you'll join me for this challenge.  Until next time... Happy Scrappin'!

The Cows Are Coming! Snapshot 13

Snapshot 13 is up at Scrapbook Graphics.  Details can be found here. The focus is on what's happening in your life right now.  I took this challenge to heart and scrapped this page on the same day the photos were taken.  How's that for fast turn around :-)  Friday the 13th was a fun day.  A group of us from work got together and dressed up like cows and went to Chik-Fil-A for their Cow Day promotion.  If you looked sort of like a cow you got a free lunch. Thank goodness for the phrase " sort of", because we were one crazy looking herd!

100 Happy Thoughts

Get a pen and paper and just start writing things that make you happy.  It's a great prompt for a scrapbook page or in my case Art Journal page.  And the best part is when you're done you can't help but feel happy!  It may seem a little difficult around item 20 or 21, but just stick with it and soon your pen will be flying across the page.  Thanks for visiting and Happy Scrappin!

QUICK UPDATE 6/27/2012:  I was notified today that this LO was chosen as one to share at SBG Gallery Standouts for this week.  There were some really cute LOs chosen this week, if you have a moment bop over and check it out.

Another Song Lyric Challenge

Studio Tangie: AJC12-Parcel 23, Art Stomp,
Creative (Collab w/Ju Kneipp)
Jen Labre-Doodle Frames
Beth Rimmer-Grungy Overlays

It time for another song lyric challenge over at Soul Scrappers.  This month it's a Kid Rock Song Lyric Challenge.  Click on the link to see the details.

I've been doing alot of hard thinking in Ali Edward's 31 Things class so I decided to take a break from all that and just have some fun with paint and doodles (digitally speaking, of course). The flowers came pre-shadowed, a little heavier than I like, but I think that works on this page.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrappin'!

31 Things Share

Here's another page I did for Ali Edward's 31 Things Class. I must admit I have fallen waaay behind in this class.  I'm on Day 6, but the class is on Day 23!  Of course the great thing about Big Picture Classes is that you have forever access to your classes. Which is a very good thing!    I had some comments about the Owl I used.  It came from a postage stamp image from Viva Aristry's "Libris" kit.  I didn't want the postage stamp,, but I loved the owl so I extracted it from the image just like you would do to a photo and voila!  Sometimes it's easy to forget that you can do things like that to your digital embellishments thereby increasing the versatility of you digi kits.  Other digi elements were from Studio Tangie's "Librarian" kit. Well that's it for today.  Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Craftin'!

Have a great day and Happy Scrappin'!

ARTastic Challenge for May

This month over at Artastic Challenge Blog they are highlighting the painting The Cricketer's by Sir George Russell Drysdale. All you need to do is draw inspiration from the painting and scrap about an outdoor event. I was inspired by the color palette of orange, green, biege, although now that the page is done I guess I leaned heavily on the "green" part of that palette...lol.  I used the kit "Sunkissed-Sunset" by Jennifer Labre and modified a template from Simply Tiffany.  You have until the end of May to get a LO done. Plenty of time to stretch those scrapbooking muscles and join in the challenge!
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrappin'!

My First Ali Edward's Class

Studio Rebecca/Studio Tangie Collab: Steampunk Je T'Adore.
Studio Tangie: AJF Mad Hatter, FiveSevenandTwo,
AJC12 Parcel 12
Ali Edward's 31 Things class started today. The 1st prompt arrived and I started journaling.  But when it came to the LO, I didn't have a photo I wanted to use and was having a hard time with the template for the album.  Anyone whose seen Ali's pages know she has a very clean, linear style.  I was having a hard time trying to fit into that style.  So I ditched the template and went for it. And here's the result.  It will be interesting to see if there are any others taking the class that won't be using the album templates.

Thanks for sharing in my journey!  Hope you have a fun day :-)

And don't forget I have a Negative Space Sketch Challenge going on until May 28th.
For the Word challenge (can you tell the word if Fun?)  I chose this picture of my son in a ball pit.  I mean, really, what could be more fun than that?!

And speaking of fun, I hope you'll join in all the fun we're having over at Soul Scrapper.
Happy Scrappin'!
